The Art of Bee Keeping.
Nothing would be more satisfying than making and enjoying your own honey . Bee keeping can either be looked at as a hobby or as business venture depending on why you are doing it. Honey is produced by the worker bees in a colony . The moment a colony is started, workers begin by making combs that are going to be used in the rearing of young ones and also as places where honey will be stored. Pollination takes place when the bees go from flower to flower collecting nectar and pass pollen grains in the process. Nectars are juices with different sugar concentrations and thy have some benefits. Bees produce enzymes from their bodies that makes them turn the sucrose into glucose and fructose that in turn makes the honey.
There is another enzyme , glucose oxidase that turns a small amount of glucose into gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide. The acid has some benefit to the honey because its presence makes the honey made resistant to bacteria , fungi and mold. Hydrogen peroxide also has a role to play in the honey making process, it gives it some short term protection against microorganisms as the honey gets ripe. The taste and the color of the honey you will harvest is dependent from which flowers the nectar will be collected from. Certain colors of honey might look more attractive more than others but the color does not affect the quality of the honey in any way.
Bee keeping has proven to be very lucrative for those who approach it in the right way. Bee keeping business does not mean that you will cash in on honey production alone there are a lot of products that the bees leave around that will make you serious money. You can sell pollination services to farmers stress free but with good marketing, all you have to do is present your hives and let the bees do the rest. The honey combs and wax still have a lot of applications in different products and this means there is a gap for you to fill with your product.
Most bee keepers who work on it as a full time business will agree that it takes time to build the business up but when it gets at the desired spot it will definitely pay off. Bee keeping is a business that is less capital intensive, you will not have to purchase large tracts of land, all you need to do is erect your hives in strategic location. Bee keeping as a hobby and as a business requires less physical effort compared to other ventures. Bee keepers are not the same , some take the business as a simple hobby others are fully into it. You are either a hobby bee keeper , a sideliner bee keeper and lastly a commercial bee keeper.
